Great things to do for Mother's Day in Loughborough | Julie Grant Photography, outdoor family photography

My husband asked me what I want to do for Mother’s Day… to be honest I haven’t really got a clue so I took it upon myself to see what’s on in the Loughborough area to celebrate all our wonderful mums this year.

For many women a day ticket to Ragdale Hall would be heavenly but she’d probably feel too guilty packing a bag and disappearing for the day; so a better solution is to give mummy a voucher to Ragdale Hall as her Mother’s Day gift instead (I really hope Simon reads this)!

So what can you all do to spend quality time together as a family..?

I have aimed this at families with younger children because mine are a bit younger and I know it’s difficult to have a day out that isn’t all about the kids.

If the idea of afternoon tea sounds great but you think the children might spoil it with cries of boredom then why not try Cattows Farm near Ashby? The farm can be used as a base to explore the nearby woodland and you can reward yourselves afterwards with tea and cake - what’s not to love?

If you want to keep it simple, then what about a walk followed by a picnic? The gardens at Whatton House are filled with Daffodils at this time of year and there are lots of winding paths that all children love to explore!

Why not treat her to Sunday lunch? This is the one meal that both of my children will actually devour which means that we can chat and relax without having to keep nagging … “just try a little bit”… “How do you know you don’t like it? You haven’t tried it”… The Quorndon Fox never fails to please.

Oh gosh…so far I look like a total piggy! Let’s find something that isn’t food based…

This one’s good for those animal lovers out there (I actually quite fancy this)… Charnwood Alpacas offer experiences where you can take an Alpaca for a walk - how cute is that? You can even make a day of it and book afternoon tea (whoops, food again).

Travelodge are offering 30,000 rooms for just £35!! Now who doesn't love a last minute night away? And if childcare is an issue, then why not book a family room? My 2 absolutely LOVE a stay in a hotel!

Bawdon Lodge Farm have an artisan spring fair on 21st March from 10am, tickets are £2 on the door or how about making a beautiful flower arrangement at Stoneywell who are having a Mother’s Day event.

Which one do I fancy? I’d really love to do the Alpaca trek but suspect my husband and son would HATE it and I would LOVE a sneaky night away but will probably end up going for Sunday lunch…unless Simon decides to surprise me with a day at Ragdale… I can always live in hope…

Hopefully I’ve given you some inspiration - if you’ve come across any other great events please feel free to share them in the comments below!

Here’s some photos of some beautiful mummies to make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

And by the way - family photography gift vouchers are available if you’re struggling for a gift for a wonderful Mum in your life.
